"What do you do when your foundation falls apart? I don't know. They don't teach you that in school."
"We can do a hell of a lot more damage in the system than outside of it. That was the final irony, I think. That, and well, this. And "fuck you" for all of you who were thinking it: I guess when all was said and done, I was nothing more than a God-damned, trendy-ass poser."
Can I just say that I am pretty harsh when it comes to films but I watched SLC Punk last night and it was better than I expected. Apart from actually having a good storyline and characters (besides Heroin Bob's love interest, the 'goddess' he's obsessed with) the film was visually quite nice too. Maybe it's the juxtaposition of the setting of ultra-concervative 1980's Salt Lake City and mohawks, pure white snow and green hair, angelic salt flats and a beaten up old punk van. So pretty in a grimy kinda way. Anyway back to the characters, starring Matthew Lillard (one of the killers in Scream and a strangely loveable psycho serial killer, sorry to spoil the ending if you haven't seen it) with his scruffy blue hair and his best friend Heroin Bob, so called because he hates needles, are livin' the punk lyf talking about posers, music, society and parents. The french-new-wave-esque addresses to the audience make you love the characters as well as their tough punk facade and the emotional and philosophical changes that hapen through the story. It's pretty funny too, when they go to buy full strength beer interstate and come across some fundamentalist christians who think the devil worshippers are causing bad weather (before steveo, bob and their friend the mod are almost shot when he shows off his 666 tattoo) I have to admit I shed a tear or two at the end (I won't give it away I promise!) but it is well worth seeing (and apparently, not that I'd really know, I won't pretend, the music is good authentic punk stuff) I thought it was good and Brandy's little speech at the end about being an individual and rebellion was pretty cool, even if if did break Stevo's little punk heart.
