18/1/12

Summer holidays are almost finished and I'm coming to the realisation I have achieved close to none of my ambitious plans, read lots of blogs about people's crazy lives a.k.a read almost the entire archive of crumpets (as apposed to books, which was part of said plan of self-improvement/life enrichment) and have eaten half a block of chocolate today. Time to wallow in self pity! yaaaaay. Here are some of the things I have occupied my days with in the past week or so:

Another line drawing

Photo from New Zealand early last year. Been going through my photos from this trip a lot lately trying to think of some art projects for school...

Rubin's Vase
The physicality of negative space, optical illusions, our space in relation to things, all that hippie crap.

Found a nice shirt at 1ina100.com. Dodgy screenshot but it's a classic old painting with geometric lines which makes it right up my alley, so to speak. In constant need t-shirts because I suck at summer and need to figure out ways to dress more appropriately for humidity as to not drown myself in my own sweat when I walk outside, or when I flail about in house for that matter... #brisbaneweather

Saw Matisse exhibition at GOMA
In seeing his work, particularly his illustrations for books and poetry and later colour works I really think he was a great graphic designer and had a very modern take on art making in a minimalistic, aesthetically strong way. In any case I found the collection of drawings and sketches quite inspiring. There was also some other really interesting stuff at the gallery but I think I'll need to go back sometime to soak it in properly (you can't rush gallery trips- sister does not understand this.)
Anyway, adios until next time, which may not be for a while considering things are going to get stressy at school soon i.e. must restrict self from internet based procrastination.

Got A Bike

I really don't know why, but hey fitness new years resolution and it's pretty cute. But I need to make friends that actually live in the area so I can ride over and visit them. We keep spending money we don't have and doing spontaneous things, I guess it runs in the family.

France- j'ai ne regrette rien

I recently went to France on a school study tour. Here are some photos from my international galavanting that you've probably already seen a million times if you follow me on tumblr:

screenshots and sparkles

Young Robert Smith
"What A Way To Go"
Great screenshotting skills Sarah
 "Eat shit"
"What A Way To Go"
Can't remember the name/artist of this but it's at the Queensland Art Gallery.
"The Snow Queen"- Vogue UK March 2009
Been watching Rose McGowan films recently: Jawbreaker and The Doom Generation
I have a lot of movies to watch thanks to Coleman but I also have to think of ideas for my photography assignment AND I'm also quite enjoying watching Supernatural on mute and listening to Kanye West... My the best activity win.

art tymz: lady loves

Two beautiful Australian artists that focus on similar themes of women and beautyDel Kathyrn Barton and Abbey McCulloch. I like the different approaches they both have, one very detailed and colourful with crazy rich surrealist dreams and the other sketchy and sinister with washes of colour but still capturing the essence of the idea in it's incomplete, imperfectly perfect state. Anyway enough of my stupid rambling-

Some more in depth videos:
Del Kathryn Barton on Artscape, she sounds very interesting..........
Abbey McCulloch on Art Nation (greatest show ever) a few weeks ago, she is such a sweetheart.
Her inspiration from magazines/fashion/photography/women and perfection is really interesting.

I would really like to own at least one of these womens' paintings in my life OR be able to make things this beautiful. Both would be the preferable outcome here.
(also I'm sorry I didn't put the titles etc. of the pieces but I did figure out how to image search by uploading a picture so you can always try that if you like- THE WONDERS OF THE INTERNET!)
